Back in the day, it used to be “too much TV” to blame for the onset of the obesity epidemic in America. Now the Couch Potatoes are out of season and the “Chair Pears” that sit for hours upon hours on the computer are turning ripe! In today’s modern world, “an apple a day to keep the doctor away” needs further clarification. With the emergence of the Apple iPhone, iPad, iTouch and iMac, the consumption of time with “fruit” has seen an unprecedented increase, but ironically with a correlated greater increase in obesity rates. Instead of going for a hike to burn calories and enjoy true nature, we take the lifeless trail to only StumbleUpon Tweets, as we reach for our Del.icio.us BlackBerry or Apple to only Digg our own graves…

Yes, I coined a new term: the Chair Pear.

True or False? The television has become the backdrop to checking email, updating your Facebook status, tweeting, catching up on today’s drama, or watching someone break a leg or do a funny dance on YouTube. While staying entertained is healthy and can provide release from a long day of work, the Chair Pear will soon rot. As most pears do after 2-3 days…

Don’t be the one that rots. Similar to a pear becoming soft, so will your muscles. Disease sets in through means of fermentation revealing itself through diabetes. Networks that sent nutrients throughout your body from the roots of your gut become hard and stiff. ¬†Your core is the last to go, and then you are discarded back to the dust that is your very essence.

They don’t call it the “survival of the fittest” coincidentally. The most fit will survive!

With that being said, you must set a new standard for yourself. Make a point to exercise for at least 20 minutes per day, before you get ingrained in your toys. Break the habit of coming home and “relaxing” because you are actually coming home and “rotting.”

It requires a significant change in mental construct, which is indeed a challenge. Equate the heaviness and fatigue that you experience when you get home as the first sign that you need to be watered. Twenty minutes of refreshment with a circuit workout will keep your fruit sweet, skin without blemishes and pulse at the beat of endurance.

Finish your workout and allow yourself full permission to be, albeit, a healthy Chair Pear. But not until then…
